Periodically, I need to just vent. I have decided to put together several posts for that very reason. I'm not just pushing myself to open up, but I'm actually willing to go beyond what I really think on a number of issues. This is one of these posts. Expect this to turn out as an incomprehensible irrational rant.
We are living in the most mindless conformist era in the history of humanity. If you know me, you know that I pin the bulk of the blame on our mentally destructive schooling system. It also appears that social networking strengthens and enforces our conformist tendencies.
Most people view posts in all capitals as rude in the sense that it's like shouting. For a couple days, I saw numerous social media posts in all capitals alongside the same picture. I have no idea where the picture came from or why this was used to justify these posts. Without knowing the background, these posts came off as just obnoxious.
I have seen reusable but stupid memes around Halloween. Just take a look at all the things that couldn't be possibly found in a candy bar that people claim can be found in a candy bar. Let's also look at everybody sharing stupid Spirit Store costumes. By the way, I don't consider it witty to use someone else's template for wit.
Do you remember when Bernie Sanders sat down doing nothing while wearing mittens? That came off as pointless the first time I saw it. Do you honestly believe that I'm going to find it more interesting when others use that picture with their own captions?
Do you remember Baby Yoda? A picture of a younger version of a popular character from a massively overrated franchise went viral because... I honestly have no idea. Perhaps I would understand if I spent money for a streaming service that forgoes original content in favor of milking old properties that weren't that good in the first place.
Most memes and viral images are flat out stupid. They are dependent on the idea that everyone likes the same things. You must embrace mindless conformity to get anything out of these kinds of posts. If you're an individual, social networking is full of complete nonsense. Personally, I don't want stupidity controlling my life. I refuse to join the mindless masses in seeking out a common influence to dictate what I enjoy.
