Society has become highly conformist. As such, we tend to adjust our beliefs, thoughts, and opinions to match those around us. In some cases, we try to match our friends. In other cases, we turn to the mainstream. For those of us who think for ourselves, we will not match up perfectly with anyone else. This blog features thoughts that deviate from the mainstream and are not considered to be socially acceptable.
The problem with the mainstream is that people mindlessly accept the same views from the same influences. These influences can be flawed, and a strong majority can certainly be wrong. When we form our beliefs, we should not feel obligated to agree with others. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with the mainstream. In fact, the only way that we can match the mainstream’s beliefs is if we mindlessly accept what we are told.
While the mainstream can be right, this blog focuses more on disagreements. This is because it is rather pointless to write what a million people have already said. Some people may disagree with one point strongly enough that they automatically disagree with everything. Those who may receive praise in any post are not affiliated with this blog. Do not turn against anyone just because they were mentioned.
As a visitor to this blog, I expect certain things from you. Think for yourself. Assuming that these blog posts are correct is no better than mindlessly siding with the mainstream. Think for yourself. Even if you don’t agree with posts, do not use that as a reason to dismiss unrelated content as flawed. If you are going to leave comments that criticize posts, say something new. It can be a real pain to have to sort through the shared beliefs of the mindless masses. You might as well prove that you’re not simply saying something that you have been conditioned to say. Most importantly, keep an open mind. If you let the mainstream form your beliefs for you, you are not going to get anything useful out of this blog.
