Political comedy can have value. This can provide an entertaining way to help people know what's happening in politics. Unfortunately, political comedy isn't even close to what it used to be. There are two changes that have seriously bothered me.
The first change is that political comedy has completely abandoned humor. It's mostly repeating, "The other side is horrible." Okay, so maybe they change the words, but it wasn't funny the first time I heard comedy that weak. It's even worse the millionth time they tell that supposed joke. In all fairness, humorless comedy has spread well beyond just politics.
The other change is that Democrats are now off limits. There has always been bias in political comedy. That's characteristic of human nature. In the past, however, comedy writers were more willing to laugh at their own side. Now, it comes off as intentionally skewed for the sake of manipulating the views of the public rather than addressing what's actually happening in politics. Instead of political comedy, it's partisan pseudo-comedy.
Republicans are bad. Republicans are bad. Republicans are bad. That's essentially what political comedy has become. I'm not laughing, and I refuse to be manipulated. I am done with political comedy for now. If a program featuring political comedy wants me to tune in, they need move away from their humorless agenda. They need to return political comedy to political comedy.
