Democrats love to
point out that they are more intelligent than republicans. If someone disagrees
with the democrats, they must be stupid. We saw a lot of this in the run up to
the most recent presidential election. Anyone who picked Trump over Clinton was
treated like an imbecile. Though not to the
same extent, many republicans returned the favor. Clinton supporters are
supposedly all idiots.
If you take a step
back, you will see something that I have talked about in the past. At heart,
both parties are the same. They expect their supporters to change to fit their
party's narrative, while rejecting the other party. In many cases, both parties
contradict themselves. No intelligent Individual will come to the conclusion that either one is correct.
The primary reason
that people bring up intelligence during an election is as an attempt to sway
opinion. If you call everybody who disagrees with you an idiot, then the only
way to avoid the label is to agree with you.
The big problem with
this kind of argument is that intelligent people tend to think for themselves.
When individualism is taken into account, there is no way that all intelligent
people will end up on the same side of an issue. Only the dumbest of the dumb
will believe a position solely to avoid criticism.
Ultimately, people
who call others stupid for no reason other than a difference of opinion only
bring their own intelligence into question. Do they really not comprehend how
independent thought works? Do they really believe that all intelligent people
will always be in agreement? Apparently, all intelligent people must share a
brain. If someone really believes that, it seems unlikely that they have
bothered to form their own thoughts. If they truly believe what they are
saying, then they fit my definition of stupid.
