Right to Respect

We should all have the right to at least some degree of respect. This does not mean that people don't have to earn your respect or that we have to maximize respect. It certainly doesn't mean that the government should watch over everyone to ensure that we all provide everybody with the amount and type of respect determined by the government. It means that nobody should deprive individuals of a basic level of respect without cause.

Like other rights that I have mentioned, the right to respect is about the government not taking away from citizens. I am not asking that the government ensures that we all receive respect. The issue here is that the government should never pass laws that are designed to deprive citizens of some form of respect.
