I should bring up a problem with my (or anyone else's) weather index. When you try to find an objective measure of something subjective, there are going to be times when your opinions don't quite match the scores. I was still close on this one. August was worse, but not that much worse statistically. I always expected this to be among our five worst Julys, but I didn't expect it to finish as the fifth worst month ever. It's right behind #4, last August.
10 Worst Months Ever | |||
Rank | Month | Year | Score |

2 | July | 2009 | 35.40% |
3 | July | 1958 | 36.51% |
4 | August | 2012 | 36.65% |
5 | July | 2013 | 36.88% |
6 | July | 1985 | 37.12% |
7 | July | 2003 | 37.79% |
8 | August | 1986 | 38.20% |
9 | July | 2004 | 38.69% |
10 | August | 1981 | 39.51% |
I have some good news. August is off to a much better start. Where July had no measurable rainfall, August does. There's also some bad news. The forecast seems to bring back the warm and dry pattern that is so un-Washingtonian.
