As it turns out, we set a record

With all the talk about our run on a record for days without any measurable rainfall, two records managed to sneak through. The first one was caught. We had our driest August ever. The second was hinted at by Scott Sistek. We hit our 17th straight day in the 70s. Since he didn’t know if that was a record or not, I took his words as a challenge.

I had already been messing around with weather data, so I decided to throw together an Excel spreadsheet that can calculate streaks within a temperature range. My approach actually allows temperature ranges for both highs and lows, but this challenge had me limit highs to 70-79 degrees with no limits for the lows. Assuming all of my data and (more importantly) my formulas are correct, we tied the previous record of 14 on August 31. With the first three days of the month already reaching the same range, we have clearly set the record with 17 and counting.
