Climbinator

When the Playground by the Sound components page was still up, it referred to this next component as a rock wall. Having seen it, I prefer to use the name provided on the layout maps, the Climbinator. The wall has hand and foot holds, but these holds are blue and attached to an imitation wood. Rock wall doesn’t seem fitting.

The holds can be found on both side as well as on the surrounding posts. If you look closely, you can see that there are two square-shaped pieces. There are also cords connecting the outer square to the posts and the inner square to the outer square, and cords on the top and bottom. This means that children playing on the Climbinator will actually be climbing on a somewhat unstable wall. Personally, if I were small enough for this component (or they made a bigger kid playground with a larger version of this component), I wouldn’t be surprised if this turned out to be my favorite component.

Now it’s time for my latest safety segment. With all the cords, it appears that children shouldn’t have to worry about too much movement. It should be enough to create enjoyment, but can’t move in a wild manner. With the nature of the holds combined with the movement, I can’t rule out the possibility of children falling from the Climbinator. From the bottom, this wouldn’t be a big deal. From the top, who knows how exactly the children would land. If I had kids, they could play on this. Other parents might be a little too terrified.
