Chain Bridge

The Chain Bridge is really more of a rope bridge. I have seen a layout of the Playground by the Sound showing the names of components, and I have also seen a list of components that were adopted. I don’t think that the name fits, but I will use it anyway.

The Chain Bridge is a series of three ropes. Children will walk on the bottom rope while holding the side ropes as the cross. Since they use ropes, there will be a give as children walk, and the bridge will move a little bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if some children try to see how fast they can cross, while others might just stand in the middle and rock back and forth. Perhaps someday a child will have the courage to try to use it as a tightrope. Since it is low to the ground, use like that could be forgiving.

For you parents out there, I should warn you that this component is towards the middle of the playground. If you want to watch your children, watch your head as you duck under other components. If you want to give them a little more space, a child playing on another component could potentially block your view.

If you are concerned with safety, children would probably have to land awkwardly to have any problems if they are towards the middle since the fall itself seems unlikely to be a risk. I would actually be more concerned with the start and end. If your child is too reckless, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of losing balance and hitting one of the posts holding up the bridge.
