Democrats and freedom

I bumped into a statement online from someone promoting the Democratic party. This person insisted that the Democrats are better than the Republicans because the Democrats support freedom. This statement really caught me off guard, and it pushed further from the Democrats. The reason for this is because it had me thinking about all the ways Democrats have been fighting freedom.

Everything that I'm posting here is off the top of my head. I'm sure I'm missing a lot. I also wrote most of this before the pandemic sent authoritarians into overdrive. Here are some of the things that Democrats have tried to restrict in recent years, some through personal actions and others through legislation.

What we are allowed to think

Democrats are strong supporters of our public schools. Our approach to schooling systematically destroys the minds of American youth. They train citizens to turn to authoritarian figures to dictate their thoughts.

As we grow older, Democrats find other ways to restrict thought, including political correctness and attacks on speech that fails to conform to liberal ideology.

What we are allowed to believe

This is closely related to thought. It includes their uneven treatment of differing religious views, but there are even bigger concerns. When the fearmongering media overblew the rise of measles, Democrats fought to eliminate the philosophical exception to vaccinations. Although I do not approve of the conspiracy theories that have fueled these philosophical exceptions, this effectively established that beliefs don't matter if they aren't tied to religion.

What we are allowed to say

Liberal employers are known to fire employees who say things that they disapprove of, even if these fired employees speak as private citizens. There are also liberal groups that organize violent protests to attack advocates of free speech. Democrats have been known to defend these groups.

Perhaps more problematic has been laws promoted by Democrats to prohibit free speech. Among the most obvious are hate speech laws. Even if you can't stand hate speech, you should be seriously concerned about the Democrats' increasing their control over what we are allowed to say.

Who we are allowed to associate with

Many businesses have been threatened with boycotts because they have been tied to a single individual who donates to conservative causes. Similarly, a lot of Democrats try to distance themselves from anyone who even has connections to Republicans. This is not just Democrats not wanting to be near Republicans. They even avoid liberals that spend time with anyone who has alternative viewpoints.

What we are allowed to eat and drink

We have seen Democrats create laws in attempts to keep people from consuming foods with trans fats and sugary drinks. Some attempts have been aimed at GMOs despite the lack of any evidence of harm. There are even some Democrats out there who want to ban meat.

What, where, when, and how we are allowed to learn

This can be summed up in one word, schooling. Although both parties are guilty in this regard, the Democrats are more aggressively trying to ensure that as many Americans as possible have their educations restricted by government-run schools. These schools try to take total control over what, where, when, and how all learning takes place.

What we are allowed to know

The Democrats essentially own the media. In recent years, the media has made it very clear that they are willing to deceive the public in order to push an agenda. They conveniently pick and choose which facts they share. A lot of important information is omitted from their reporting. The facts they share are deliberately spun. They inject opinions that are featured more prominently than facts. In some cases, they will tell outright lies to help the Democrats.

Of all the different restrictions that I am mentioning, this is perhaps the most bipartisan. The lone conservative outlet in the mainstream media, Fox News, embraces these same principals.

What we are allowed to watch and read

The Democrats have been actively engaged in all forms of censorship. Anything they find offensive must be removed from society.

  

Who we are allowed to vote for

Many states that are controlled by liberals have recently tried to pass legislation purely for the sake of removing a competing candidate from their ballots. In particular, they tried to change the rules specifically for the purpose of removing Donald Trump's name from ballot.

How we are allowed to live our lives

Everything that I have mentioned restricts our right to live our lives how we want. In a sense, that is the biggest restriction of all.
