Yearly Blog Update 2020

It looks like it’s once again time to do a quick re-evaluation of my online presence. There won’t be many changes this year, and I honestly can’t think of any changes that I didn’t end up making mid-year.

Random Rants and Ramblings

There will be no major changes. I will say that my Short Stories section isn’t quite turning out as originally intended. Individual posts have generally not had a contained plot, and I have been more reliant on turning everything into a series.

The War Between Schooling and Education

I am not making any changes at this time.

Tumblr

I have run into some frustrations with Tumblr. My dashboard is far too liberal. I can generally handle the LQBTQ content (though there is far too much of it), but the explicit racism has been a little too much for me. This is especially problematic since I haven’t decided to follow many Tumblr blogs, so this is essentially content being promoted by Tumblr. I don’t like the idea of a social network controlling the content, but there are issues when they push this type of content. I’m not abandoning the site, but I have cut back to just my “From the archives” posts, which are old pictures from Flickr.

#ProudlyProEd

Again, I have had some frustrations with Tumblr. I have decided to put this blog on hiatus.

Flickr

There are no real changes, but I can clarify how my process has evolved from the start of 2019. In short, I have not been comparing new photos to previous photos. Instead, I am looking through each day individually and seeing if there are pictures that seem like they would be good additions. I’m still comparing within the day to avoid too much repetition. I also have some old pictures that I have been slowly adding. Those are on my old computer and will utilize my old approach for picture selections.

eBird

I will be submitting checklists about as frequently as last year.

Twitter

I have no plans for changes at this time, but I can once again clarify. I am periodically sharing various thoughts. Sometimes, I will attach the hashtag #ProudlyProEd. I'm not really promoting this hashtag, but I wanted to essentially claim it. I am tweeting complete eBird checklists when I record them. I have also used Twitter for pictures. One more use has been my Nature Log. This is one thing that I might actually change in 2020. I have been retweeting when I update more than one page. It might be better to be more active in mentioning updates and at least hinting at which page(s) are updated.

Nature Log

I am planning on keeping my Nature Log going. I have decided that a species of the year tends to get in the way of some of my other goals, so I will not be naming any species of the year for 2020.
