Was the vote on GND political stunt?

Not too long ago, the Republicans put the Democrats' Green New Deal up for a vote. The Democrats were furious. They insisted that the vote was a sham, and that the actions of the Republican party was just a political game.

Do I believe the vote was a political game? Technically speaking, any bill in our government has political implications. This vote took things a little further. There was no way that the bill could have passed. McConnell even insisted that he wanted the Democrats on record for this issue. There is no doubt in my mind that the vote was more politically motivated than most.

Does this mean that the Democrats were right to be furious? Not a chance. They were playing their own political games.

Why did the Democrats even submit the bill if they didn't want a vote? This was a publicity stunt from the beginning. With AOC co-sponsoring the bill, she managed to put the spotlight on herself. Most of the presidential candidates for the Democrats have endorsed the deal in an attempt to grab attention for themselves. The bold socialist proposal was a political stunt from the beginning.

How about the vote itself? Does anyone honestly believe that every single Democrat who voted Present was voting based off their personal views? There is no question that this was a partisan decision. The Democrats were not voting on the bill. They were voting on what their party told them was best for them politically. They even stated that voting Present was to send a message. The Democrats' approach to the bill came off as more political than what we saw from the Republicans.

Let's not forget about the media in all of this. They are clearly biased towards this piece of legislation, frequently claiming that the bill is primarily about environmentalism. They praise those involved for being bold. Let's not forget that their praise does not qualify as legitimate news. When it comes to their portrayal of the vote, that's when their bias becomes undeniable.

The media has been pushing the Democrats' narrative that the vote was a politically motivated sham. They have consistently downplayed the role that the Democrats have played in their own bill. They refuse to acknowledge that partisan politics was why a large majority of the Democrats voted Present. They also refuse to acknowledge that the rhetoric provided by the Democrats has been intentionally divisive. They may be right about why the Republicans put the Green New Deal up for a vote, but they are no better themselves.
