The mainstream media has spent a lot of time discussing fake news. Their primary arguments have been about how conservatives are too easily falling for fake news on social media. While that is technically a valid concern, there are serious problems with their arguments.
One problem with the news about fake news is that these reports are heavily biased. There have been numerous fake stories designed to tilt mainstream perceptions to the left. These have been consistently ignored by mainstream sources that claim to be fighting fake news.
The other big problem has been the fixation on source. Mainstream sources are essentially saying that you can trust mainstream sources. The truth is, the mainstream media has been caught in all sorts of deception over the years. They keep telling us to be skeptical of anything coming from alternative sources, which makes sense, and assume that everything coming from mainstream sources is correct, which is absurd.
These two big problems are closely related. There is abundant evidence that the mainstream media maintains a strong liberal bias. If they want to provide a skewed perspective of fake news, then they have to protect mainstream sources. This is because a much higher percentage of fake news designed to dupe liberals is coming from the mainstream media. If they really want people to believe that gullibility is strictly a conservative trait, of course they will downplay the numerous times that Democrats have fallen for dishonesty coming from mainstream sources.
