After the Boston Marathon bombing, Bostonians rallied around a phrase, Boston Strong. If you take a step back, the Boston Marathon bombing wasn't all that substantial. Yes, it was noteworthy, but compare it to the explosion in West, Texas just two days later.
Boston Strong was how Bostonians pulled through an exaggerated terrorist attack. It's how they tried to demand sympathy from others. Personally, I found the messaging to mean Boston Weak. The people of West never demanded sympathy to get them through their tragedy.
What's really annoying about this weak slogan is that many others have since copied it. If a city wants sympathy, they will put the name of their city followed by strong. In some cases, other entities such as a person or an organization may be used. Considering how weak this messaging was from the beginning, why are so many copying it?
Boston Strong was weak and overused. Fill-in-the-blank Strong is just as weak and far from clever. I'm sick of hearing it. When can we finally retire this idiocy?
