My Idea Outlet: Sports/Leagues and Events/Elite

A new page, Leagues and Events/Elite, has been added to my Sports notebook for My Idea Outlet. The contents can be found below.

This project is built around the idea that sports should be more about recreation than elitism. That does not mean that I oppose elite sporting opportunities. In fact, there are some legitimate recreational benefits to supporting elite sports.

Watching others play a sport can help you understand that sport. Watching elite athletes can give you a sense of what's possible. It can even help you set goals. These goals can be as simple as learning how to play or joining a recreational league.

The best athletes in the world should be able to make a good living playing their sports. I am open to fairly substantial pay, although my preferences are probably a little below what elite athletes currently make. This is because I want to ensure that we invest more in recreation than elitism. A lot of money moves through elite sports, and athletes should get a good chunk of it, but this revenue can also be used to bolster recreational opportunities.

I will go into more details in the future about ideas I have for elite sports, but there is another element (that I think I have mentioned elsewhere) I want to mention. I am interested in a unified feel. I want recreational and elite athletes to have some form of connection. Ideally, I would like a model where recreation is considered a low tier and elite sports is the top tier of the same system. This likely means that recreation feeds pro teams and pro teams feed a single elite league.
