I do not always stick to standard interpretations of what various words and phrases mean. For this reason, I have put together a quick list of how certain concepts are likely to be used.

College

A school intended for students beyond 12th grade, maintaining very similar methodology.

Discrimination

Treatment of a group as inferior to another, usually when such treatment is unfair and unjustified.

Education

Development of skills and abilities as well as general mental development.

Educational Facility

Physical location that is developed for educational purposes

Educational Needs

An individual's needs in order to receive the education that is right for him or her.

Educational Resource Center

An educational facility intended to focus on ensuring that learners have the educational resources that they need.

Educational Resources

Anything utilized in a manner that furthers education such as computers, books, and people.

Educational Rights

The right of citizens to pursue the education that is best for them, particularly in regards to the right to pursue an education free from the confines of a restrictive schooling environment.

Independent Learner

Someone whose educational needs are best met without interference from others such as teachers.

Learn

Typically the development of skills and abilities, although some use a broader definition that includes anything that could be perceived as mental development including memorization.

Learner

Anyone who is learning, including those who learn outside of school (which is more likely to lead to real learning).

Memorization

The act of storing information in the brain for the purpose of later recall, including short-term and long-term variants.

Propaganda

One-sided portrayal of an issue designed to manipulate beliefs and opinions.

School

A facility frequently confused with education that controls and restricts the educational process.

Self-directed Education

A concept that typically encompasses unschooling as well as student-centric schools and more open educational environments that pushes the common sense reality that education is primarily the responsibility of the learner.

Student

Someone who is attending a school.

Student-centric

Building around the needs and desires of students in a school rather than the teachers.

Teacher

Someone who does not actually teach that is primarily responsible for controlling and restricting the educational process in a school.

Tolerant

Openness to diverse beliefs and ideas, and willingness to respect differences.

Unschooling

Learning primarily outside of the schools with the belief that a learner should take full responsibility for establishing how and what to learn along with other variables.
