A vulnerability of humanity

We have tried to figure out the various threats that humanity could ultimately face. It seems unrealistic to think that we know everything in this regard. It is difficult to evaluate how we would handle any specific unknown situation for obvious reasons, but I honestly feel that there is an increasing cause for concern in this area.

There is no doubt in my mind that we are living in the most mindless era in the history of humanity. We have generally been trained to rely on others to tell us what we know. While sharing knowledge can have value, there are limitations to that value. The big issue here is that there is still a lot that we don't know. New information must originate somewhere, but we are no longer willing to embrace alternative information sources.

We have never been less adaptable or less capable of expanding our understanding beyond what is already known. If we ever have to face a threat that we hadn't started preparing for decades ago, we are going to be in big trouble. The mass mindlessness of modern society has created a vulnerability that we need to address. Unfortunately, the current trend seems to support even more mindlessness and more of a dependence on the work of previous generations.
