Remember: segregation failed

We have all heard about our history of segregating the population based on race. That was a dark time in our history, and we ultimately came to our senses. In recent years, there has been a bizarre twist as more and more Americans seem interested in returning to segregation.

The nature of the current push for segregation does have some differences with the past. People aren't asking for separate restrooms and drinking fountains. They are asking for special treatment and laws that vary between ethnicities. Black Lives Matter is a movement that has displayed this desire. For example, they want police officers to observe skin color before determining whether or not they are allowed to defend themselves.

Another form of segregation that is being promoted is in the form of black culture. While there are other groups such as Native Americans who also embrace an ethnic culture, those are usually based off of such things as heritage. Black culture in America generally does not reflect such things as the languages of their ancestors or studying a nation where their families were originally from, although there are definitely some exceptions. The primary goal of American black culture is for blacks to have a culture distinct from whites. In other words, they want to be segregated.

When you divide people by race, the majority usually benefits. That's why I find it shocking that a minority group wants to restore the concept of segregation. If we pit all the races against each other, the black community will not benefit. This is why I am so confused. Why are they pushing so hard for something that would be to their detriment?
