The outsider who acts like an insider

Donald Trump has been the big story of this year's election cycle. He has been praised by many for being an outsider willing to take on the establishment.

Earlier in the process, Ben Carson also received attention as an outsider. Of course, his more soft-spoken and down-to-earth personality didn't help. It was Trump who knew the political game.

Trump has embraced the role of a typical politician. He loves to sling mud and knows how to say things in ways that capture headlines. He is always strategizing about how best to exploit the system for his own selfish gains.

I thought Ben Carson was too aggressive in his religious beliefs, but I found him somewhat refreshing. He avoided the sleazy tactics that essentially define modern politics. He actually seemed genuinely interested in working for the good of the people rather than the good of himself.

This is the big divider in the outsider candidates. Trump has embraced the corrupt political game and is campaigning as an insider. Carson remained an outsider. Of course, there is another difference. Trump has more financial backing.

Ted Cruz became Trump's final Republican rival. Ever since the bulk of Republican candidates dropped out of the race, Cruz was Trump's only real challenger. In many cases, Cruz managed to outmaneuver Trump in securing delegates. Trump has used these opportunities to criticize Cruz for his tactics.

Does anyone honestly believe that Donald Trump isn't strategizing to maximize his delegate count? Does anyone honestly believe that he is merely stating his case in hopes that the public supports his cause? It might not be an ideal system, but Trump is clearly not focusing solely on being the most popular Republican. He is strategizing his appearances and topics of discussions right before primaries and caucuses to win delegates, not national support.

As I have already stated, Trump acts like an insider. Sure, he embraces a harsher tone that sacrifices respectability in favor of recognition, but you can't tell that he's an outsider from the way he acts. Despite this, a lot of people embrace his acting like a career politician because they assume he won't embrace that kind of political persona if he becomes president. Personally, I don't think Trump's ego will let him turn against his own kind of behavior.
