The AP is obsolete

I consider so much of the modern world to be obsolete. That's one of the drawbacks of living an a regressive era. Among the obsolescence that can currently be observed is the Associated Press.

The rise of the Associated Press made sense. News was primarily provided to the public through newspapers. Different cities had their own newspapers, and it would not have been worth it for every newspaper to create staff for every other locale to provide their own stories for everything happening around the country. The Associated Press allowed different newspapers to use content created for national news events to be shared. This was a big boost for the accessibility of national news.

Newspapers have been in a serious decline over the years. Thanks to other sources, especially the internet, there has been less value in waiting for the newspaper to arrive each morning. By that time, most of the news is old, and there is little if any value in the content provided. Ultimately, the newspapers that formed the Associated Press are no longer a significant factor in how we receive the news.

Despite the decline of newspapers, the Associated Press remains aggressive in being the primary source of news. They have done this by providing their reports to various websites. The way the internet works, however, is not the same as how newspapers worked when the Associated Press formed. The approach being taken by the Associated Press is not a good one for online reporting.

One of the key differences that we are seeing is that it has become easier to access content from sources local to the stories being reported. The Associated Press sometimes tries to overshadow local coverage despite their more national focus. Their biases such as east coast bias skews various reports when we should be getting our information closer to the source. Additionally, higher profile reporters for the Associated Press get more coverage than locals who have a better sense of the details for various stories.

Another issue with the Associated Press is that numerous news organizations use their stories. If you look up most news items through an internet search, you will usually get a flood of results showing the same Associated Press article. If it's a subjective report, it's difficult to find alternative viewpoints. If it's factual, additional facts become hard to find.

To help increase readers, the Associated Press has made some changes to content. Opinions are abundant. When they are mixed into factual pieces, some people might embrace opinions that are reported as fact. We have seen this a lot in recent years as aggressive race baiting from the Associated Press has predictably corresponded with an increase in racial tensions. I have read numerous articles that make a comment in the very first sentence about a white police officer shooting an unarmed black man. These comments are frequently unrelated to the story they are supposed to be reporting. When I see it, I ask myself, "Was this written by the Associated Press?" The answer has consistently been yes. The modern Associated Press is clearly trying to use news as a guise to push an agenda.

Ultimately, the Associated Press is harming our ability to find important information on the internet. They inject political ideology into numerous stories while flooding the internet with misinformation and conveniently omitted details. They do not provide a valid source for information, and they are ultimately harming America and Americans. The reason they existed in the first place is no longer valid, and we would be better off if the Associated Press ceased operations. Despite the control they have over information in America, they simply can't be trusted.
