Liberal and conservative redefined

Are you liberal or conservative? Are you more likely to resist change or rush into things? Are you more likely to make carefully calculated decisions or act without preparation? Are you more likely to hoard your earnings or buy on credit?

These questions no longer establish if you are a liberal or a conservative. Liberal and conservative have been redefined to refer to political preferences. The new division: Do you side with the Democrats or Republicans?

There are still some ties. Overall, Democrats are more liberal and Republicans are more conservative. On some issues, it’s flipped. Military is a good example. Liberals insist that we should be careful when it comes to utilizing the military. Conservatives look for any excuse to go to war. Also, liberals are willing to maintain smaller forces than the conservatives. In this case, liberals are conservative and conservatives are liberal. A lot of political tendencies defy logic. Why are liberals consistently so much more conservative on certain issues than conservatives? Why are the conservatives so liberal?

Perhaps we should go back to the old definitions. Conservative should be conservative. Liberal should be liberal.
