Our Oppressive Government

This post was adapted from something that I had previously written.
The United States is always quick to refer to itself as the leaders of the free world. Is this even a free country? Not by a long shot. The United States is clearly an oppressive nation.

This country has successfully created the illusion of freedom for most citizens. This illusion is partially due to propaganda and the pro-government schooling system that we have in place. When people are trained to believe that they are free, they tend to believe that they are free.

We let the government define freedom for us. If we mindlessly go along with the pro-government values forced on us, the government can convince us that we are free. In reality, we lack fundamental right and freedoms such as educational rights, parental rights, and the freedom to think for ourselves. We have no rights to be individuals. We must let the government control who we are.

Take a look at freedom of speech. Most people feel that they are allowed to say whatever they want. Usually, whatever they want to say is what the government has influenced them to want to say. Those who think for themselves must remain silent. The United States does not approve of any dialog that may be offensive to anyone or detrimental to their values. People silence themselves to avoid lawsuits and labels such as racist, sexist, homophobic, and un-American.

Un-American is an interesting word. The pro-government values that we are hit with have us viewing this as one of the ultimate insults. I can assure anyone who is reading this that if every single good person thinks about whether or not our country is great, less than one hundred percent will be pro-America. How can we use “un-American” as an insult if many good people with their own opinions could undoubtedly be labeled in this way? By comparison, pretty much any mindless individual in the country can avoid the supposed insult. “You are Un-American” could essentially be replaced with, “You are such an independent thinker.”

I’m sure a lot of people will criticize me since there are countries that are considered to be worse. I have no way of knowing this since I haven’t spent any time in those countries. I have nothing to judge them by. Most people who feel that those countries lack freedom have nothing to judge them by. This is all assumption. All I know for sure is that the United States is not a free country.

There is a concern that people could be right about these foreign countries. Even if the United States is the best country in terms of freedom, that does not mean that we should be classified as a free country. That would be like saying Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgeway weren’t murderers because there have been worse throughout history.

If we are not allowed to live our own lives, life is meaningless. If we really are freer than foreigners, than freedom on a global scale is a serious concern. If we really are the ultimate example of freedom on Earth, the entire human race is at stake.  I sure hope that we can do better than America’s concept of freedom.
