Although I do not like how current sports leagues and events tend to diminish the recreational value of sports, I do support the use of leagues and events. They just need to be run in a drastically different manner.
Recreational leagues need to embrace fluid rosters. I also think that there could be benefits to creating a path from recreational sports to professional sports. This could allow recreational athletes to better connect with a sport since their beginnings would parallel the beginnings of the best athletes in the world.
I'm already repeating myself. When discussing how to support recreation in sports, it makes sense that I would discuss sports leagues and events. Elsewhere in this project, I am looking at some structural components of leagues and events. Since recreational leagues and events are among the considerations, most of my ideas will be included in that section.
