For years, liberals have tried to actively cancel out everything that offends them. They will call for boycotts if one investor donates to a Republican. They will demand that businesses fire known conservatives. They will push to ban books, rename buildings, or remove statues if they don't support their liberal perspectives.
As I have already stated, I'm not against boycotts. I'm also not against renaming. My issue with cancel culture is that it's a mindless and intolerant approach used far too aggressively. A simple difference of opinions can lead to serious consequences.
Cancel culture is dependent on mass mindlessness. Cancelling out others over minor disagreements can only make sense if you view your side of an issue as how things have to be. These tactics are being used exclusively by people who embrace an echo chamber. If you think for yourself, a perfect match for the cancel culture community is impossible. You will have disagreements that others will want to cancel, resulting in more sympathy for those being cancelled. In order to match, you have to embrace the idea that cancel culture dictates your thoughts.
One of the many problems with cancel culture is that people are trying to pounce on anything negative. The truth is that everyone has both positive and negative traits. If you are cancelling out anyone who has done wrong, you are also cancelling out anyone who has done right. By cancelling the bad, we are also cancelling the good.
For example, George Washington was a slave owner who helped lead the United States to independence and became the first president. Although the positivity behind him can be disputed, most people didn't even realize he was a slave owner. There's a simple reason for this. His ownership of slaves had absolutely nothing to do with why his name is in the history books.
Finally, I wanted to briefly discuss Dr. Seuss. For years, liberals have been pushing to cancel his books. They recently had partial success when a handful of books ceased publication. This won't end the pressure. Among the criticism, liberals are attacking him over his support for Japanese internment camps. Oddly enough, the man who ordered these camps has been immune from liberal backlash. This was the same man behind massive government expansion and the disastrous New Deal, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. This is a man who fits all qualifications for cancellation by liberals. Why the exception?
