We need a unifier

Bill Clinton broke the law. Republicans impeached him. Democrats kept him in office. We saw division in our country, and things were only going to get worse from there.

George W. Bush was behind both No Child Left Behind and the Patriot Act. These laws became wildly unpopular. The same could be said for the wars he started. Democrats hated him, and I can't blame them. When he left office, the country was more divided than I had ever seen.

Barack Obama could have done nothing, and the country would have been less divided. Instead, he went out of his way to generate as much hate for the Republicans as he possibly could. Even when the Republicans have him what he wanted, he would use that as an opportunity to attack the Republicans. Obama was easily the most divisive president of my time, even surpassing Bush.

Then came Donald Trump, a man who wants to be the Republican Obama. He has embraced a lot of Obama's divisive traits, although not quite as strongly. As a result, we have maintained the division that we saw under Obama.

What our country needs right now is a leader who will help us heal. We need a leader who will bring us closer together. We need a uniter.

Have you paid attention to the Democrats running for president? I believe all of them have embraced hate and division as central to their campaigns. Admittedly, I haven't carefully studied all of them, but you would think that at least one candidate in a crowded field would seek the spotlight by promoting unity and tolerance rather than hate and division.

Of all of the major party candidates, it appears as though only one has any capability at all of moving this country closer together. That's Bill Weld, a Republican. Personally, I hope that he can surprise Trump in the Republican primaries. I'm not going to get my hopes up. With the way things are going, Trump could once again be the lesser of two evils. Of course, this is assuming you embrace two-party politics.
