A new page, Recreation>Drop-in Games, has been added to my Sports notebook for My Idea Outlet. The contents can be found below.
If we want to support sports as a recreational opportunity, people need to have opportunities to play without a commitment to a team. The simplest way to handle this is to support drop-in games.
Drop-in games will never be perfect. Different people have different times of availability. Ideally, there should be drop-in games played at all times. Away from peak hours, options should be reduced. Too many options would split the potential participants into a larger number of smaller groups. Smaller groups are less likely to have enough participants to play.
Popular sports should be played on a fairly reliable schedule. Less popular sports should be rotated. This can give people exposure to a larger variety of sports.
Scheduled games for drop-ins should not overlap with scheduled games from recreational leagues. Instead, I want league games to include slots for drop-ins. This would allow people to experiment with league play without asking for a season-long commitment. I also want leagues to embrace fluid rosters, but I intend to explain league rosters more in the Leagues and Events>Recreation section.
