Standard, daylight saving, or both

Here in Washington, we have many representatives pushing to end our yearly time changes. They have even passed a bill to put us permanently on daylight saving time. Personally, I would have preferred permanent standard time.

Our time scale is a creation of man. Time will progress the same regardless of any decisions we make about what we consider to be the time. The importance of picking daylight saving over standard has little relevance to how we live our lives.

One of the primary arguments against standard time is that it would get light too early in the summer. Out here, you can see signs that it's getting lighter around five with daylight saving time. That would translate to four standard. That seems early, but that's only because of the times we're used to.

Perhaps the people are right. Perhaps times would be too early when compared to what we're used to. All of this comes down to the scheduling that we have grown with. Either approach to eliminating time changes can provide an opportunity to reevaluate scheduling.

The way our time system was originally designed was to have solar noon and noon on the clock roughly aligned. What we are suggesting is to shift our time system by one hour because we are unhappy with the scheduling decisions we have made. Personally, I would rather go with standard time and tell everybody to shift their schedules by an hour.

What do you think? Should we switch to daylight saving time, standard time, or maintain our current practices? Maybe you have an alternative idea. In case you couldn't tell, I prefer an alternative idea. My order of preferences beyond the alternative would by standard time, daylight saving time, then our current approach.

What is my alternative idea? I think I will save that for another post. Hint: I believe this world is becoming increasingly globalized.
