A lot of people have been discussing Scott Pelley's commencement speech at Wake Forest. I admittedly didn't watch the speech. I had something going in the background. I found a liberal website that posted his speech and read it.
Before I go any further, I feel obligated to clarify what shouldn't need to be clarified. I am not a Trump Republican. I refused to vote for Trump. My views are closer to Republicans regarding my views on this speech, but I openly reject partisan conformity. Please do not attack me for believing things that I don't believe.
My biggest issue with Trump is that he's bringing what I hate about Democrats to the Republican party. There is validity to some of the things Pelley said, but most of his criticisms were more characteristic of the Democrats. Although he avoided addressing the party by name, he made it very clear that he was referring to Republicans.
Pelley brought up freedom of speech. The Democrats have tried to criminalize speech that makes them uncomfortable. He brought up attacks on the media. The Democrats control all but one of the mainstream media outlets. They have shown an interest in outright banning that outlier. Pelley brought up turning criminals into heroes. Are we supposed to forget about their handling of Antifa? What about Saint Luigi?
Pelley deceived a captive audience with loaded language in an intentionally skewed narrative to push an agenda. This fits pretty much every definition I have seen for propaganda. The fact the Pelley is considered to be a journalist validates the criticism aimed at his profession. He is destroying his own credibility while feeding broader concerns of the media’s credibility.
If you know me, you know that I hate wasting my time writing what you can find elsewhere. I might have let the slide if it wouldn't have been for the response of an anti-educational activist and president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten. Weingarten public reposted praise for this speech, complete with a video.
On the surface, this isn't surprising. Weingarten could easily be classified as a liberal propagandist herself. There is a difference with this repost. As far as I'm aware, Weingarten has never made the claim that she doesn't use her personal account to promote propaganda. By contrast, she has repeatedly defended allegations that so-called educators are indoctrinating students with liberal propaganda.
I'm not a social creature. More than likely, nobody will ever even see this post. In the nearly impossible event that Weingarten somehow sees it, I should provide her with a little advice. If you don't want people to think that students are being indoctrinated with liberal propaganda, you might not want to publicly support a video that proves that students are being indoctrinated with liberal propaganda.
