"In this house, we believe…" Have you seen these signs? There are even shirts. People are actually buying what they believe from a store.

Sometimes, people might find an interesting way to say something you already believe. If you want to share someone else's wording that reflects your beliefs, that's one thing. When it comes to these signs, it's a list.

If you think for yourself, you are not going to conveniently find a list of your personal beliefs in a store. If you are a conformist, sure, but conformists don't think for themselves. I can absolutely guarantee that no intelligent person will post signs like these in front of their homes.

There's another issue with these signs: we. This indicates that everyone in the house has the same beliefs. If a household is tolerant and independent, it should be impossible to find a list that is appropriate for all members of the household.

In all fairness, I might have a skewed perspective on this issue. I have shared what I consider to be my defining beliefs. I have even periodically updated this list. When I already had a list of my beliefs, it's discouraging to see others simply use someone else's list. As far as I'm concerned, we should all be better than that.
