Right to marriage

There has been a lot of debate in recent years regarding who should have the right to get married. Not many are willing to ask the related question, is marriage a fundamental right? In short, the answer is no.

Marriage as a legal status essentially means that the government is getting involved in your personal life. While an argument can certainly be made that someone has a right to commit to a partner, that doesn't mean that the government has to become a part of that relationship. Personally, I see no practical reason for marriage as a legal status to even exist. The government does not need to intrude on your personal life, and they don't need to be invited into your bedroom.
