The American Flag

Our flag certainly does a great job of representing how this nation works. Just look at how much of the flag is devoted to the east and how much is devoted to the West. It’s almost as lopsided as the actions of this country.

How well are the 13 original colonies represented? That would be the light portion of the flag below.
least
How about the rest of the country?
majority
Can you tell which is more? Why don’t I also share the West Coast. I will include Alaska and Hawaii. This means that this region is significant in terms of both population and geographical area.
Best
How about just my home state of Washington? I should also point out that despite my grudge against Calivermia, the nation’s most heavily populated state, it has the same share of the flag.

Now let’s look at the areas for the Best and the least. Since I’m comparing the coasts, I will replace the 13 original colonies with the 14 least coast states. The Best is green and the least has a yellow tint. Note: Pennsylvania is technically not least coast (just barely), so the bottom stripe is not counted with the least.
Compare
Let’s… turn off the actual flag. This way you can better see the difference.

As you can see, the east is much bigger in the eyes of this nation than the West. It’s also not just the flag. How about the seal for this nation?
seal1seal2
Let’s see how much representation the 13 colonies have:
  • 13 arrows
  • Usually 13 olives and/or leaves
  • 13 stars above the eagle
  • 13 stripes on shield
  • 13 layers on the pyramid
As for the 50 states, which actually includes the West coast:
  • Nothing
That’s even more lopsided than the flag.
Let me just clarify something. I am not proposing any changes. The reason that I’m bring these things up is because of how well they represent this country. If they ever revised the flag or the seal to show more respect for the states, they would become lies. This country does not care one bit about the West, and it is unlikely that they ever will.
