The voter spin

Democrats are making a big deal right now about how they took their gerrymandering proposals to voters and Republicans did not. On the surface, this definitely makes the Democrats look good. If you look any deeper, I'm not impressed.

Republicans with a clear majority are not convinced that voters are on their side. Democrats with a slim majority are confident that they can win voters. Why is this?

In order for this to make sense, Republicans would have to be more likely to vote against their party than Democrats even though we are essentially talking about the same issue. This would mean that Democrats are convinced that their supporters will vote however they are told.

I have been saying for years that the Democratic party lacks diversity. It's as though everyone who supports the Democrats shares a brain. The Democrats' strategy is built around the idea that they view their own supporters as mindless.

For clarification, I am not defending Republicans bypassing voters in their unethical redistricting efforts. Taking these issues to voters is better than ramming them through. I also want to point out that here in the most mindless conformist era in the history of humanity, a lot of Republicans are just as mindless as Democrats.

The issue here is that the arguments coming from the Democrats show complete dependence on the mindlessness of their own supporters. It isn't the Republicans who are portraying Democrats as mindless. It's the Democrats. They clearly view their own supporters as mindless.

Again, there are similar problems coming from Republicans. The difference is that there's more diversity in the Republican party. In addition to mindless conservative conformists, a small portion of their voting base won't mindlessly vote however they are told.
