Short Stories - Time Traveler III

Sometimes, it's best to leave your comfort zone. I have decided to push myself for some creativity. I'm not a writer (as if you couldn't tell), but I have decided to push that aside to write some corny stories. The text below is from one of these stories.

Enlightia was excited about her invitation to the floating palace. She wanted to get as much as possible from the event, so she scoured the Futuropolis Historical Museum for deeper information.

Futuropolis was founded 140 years ago by a group led by a man named Spelvin. Spelvin came from an unexpected background. He was a bright student. One day, his school caught fire. His closest friend died in the blaze. Spelvin felt that he should have gone in after his friend. He blamed himself.

Spelvin fell into a deep depression. He tried going back to school, but his memories of the event made the experience too difficult for him. He dropped out and went into seclusion.

No reliable records have been found regarding how Spelvin spent his next 6 years. Suddenly, he reemerged in society. Apparently, he utilized his anger as a source of motivation. He looked for ways to prevent similar disasters. Gradually, his views took a divergent path. He was looking at every opportunity he could to prevent hardships. This led to the concepts on which Futuropolis had been founded.

Some of Spelvin's ideas resonated with his community's leaders. They formed an organization, Inventing the Future, that built on top of Spelvin's ideas. There was a lot of experimentation over the next two years. The organization became convinced. They worked with a number of wealthy connections and developed the original plans for Futuropolis.

Enlightia was impressed. Futuropolis was built off of a tragedy that Spelvin struggled to overcome. What if he hadn't had to overcome these struggles? What if he would have been better educated? The most brilliant mind of his time could have been so much more.

Enlightia was very familiar the history of the schooling system. The nation was slow to embrace schooling and started just one year before Spelvin's birth. They rejected all of the educational norms established in other countries. It was clear that the schooling system of Spelvin's time had not yet been properly developed. She thought more and more about what could have been. In many ways, one of the greatest moments in history could have been even greater.
