A new page, About, has been added to my Business Sim notebook for My Idea Outlet. The contents can be found below.
Not all of my ideas relate to such things as practicality. I have had multiple ideas related to possible computer games. One game idea I have had related to the business sim genre.
There are a lot of business sims and related games out there. Rollercoaster Tycoon remains one of my favorites. There are city management games, transportation games, manufacturing games, and so much more. All of these games run independently of each other.
What if you could combine these games? For example, you could manage a city with a theme park. The theme park in question would be open to management, allowing both game components to influence the other.
Over time, this idea evolved. If you embraced on online model, either through subscription or free-to-play with microtransactions or alternative funding, you could simplify the concept. You would only need to maintain one version (plus testing), and you wouldn't have to worry as much about whether any combination of purchased content could break the game.
This idea went even further when I looked at some possibilities that I could explore. Among the more intriguing was a shift away from standard business simulations in favor of using such a game as a content creation took. Imagine playing a racing game in a city that you built.
I intend to document some of my basic ideas for such a game, and some ideas about how it could be implemented. This will include ideas for revenue sources, the businesses that can be simulated, how the in-game finances can be structured, leaderboards, social components, and more.
