For years, trust in the American media has been plummeting. Oddly enough, they have tried to pin the blame on our current president, even though this trust problem began long before Trump started his campaign.
The media's approach to defending itself gets even more bizarre. They are heavily pushing two arguments that don't mesh. They say you can't trust anything Trump says. Since he says the media is dishonest, that must mean that the media is trustworthy.
They also like to compare themselves to Trump. Between the two, they insist that they are more trustworthy. For that reason, we should trust the media.
To put this another way, the media is calling Trump the most dishonest man in history. Then, they compare themselves to him. They are not comparing themselves to someone we can trust. Instead, they are trying to convince us to trust them by saying that it could be even worse. Is anyone really falling for this tactic?
Of course, the media's word against Trump's is insufficient to come to any meaningful conclusion. If the media lies about Trump, then Trump has no reason to lie. Despite the media's claims about themselves, they have legitimately been caught lying on numerous occasions. Even if they are more honest than Trump, that is no reason to assume that they are right every time they are disputing Trump's claims.
