My Idea Outlet: Background and History>The Tumblr Days

A new page, Background and History>The Tumblr Days, has been added to my main My Idea Outlet notebook. The contents can be found below.

When I first decided to document my ideas, I spent some time trying to figure out the best approach. The never ending nature of my projects had me convinced that I needed to take a gradual approach to posting updates. I ultimately decided to add one paragraph every two or three days.

Because I was posting each paragraph individually, I felt that I needed to embrace an online platform suitable for short posts. I settled on Tumblr. For each update, I would add a paragraph to a OneNote document, create an associated Tumblr post, and provide a link from Tumblr to the OneNote document.

Once a month, I posted a summary of recent changes to My Idea Outlet. This included links to each update on Tumblr and links to each active project's OneNote document. These summaries can still be found on Blogger.

I ran into formatting issues fairly early but tried not to let those problems get in the way of sharing my ideas. The biggest issue I had was with paragraph structure. By posting paragraphs individually, I had to ensure that they made at least some sense when removed from adjacent paragraphs. Having to awkwardly add details to paragraphs was bad enough. Trying to read paragraphs in sequence from the OneNote documents was worse. There was way too much repetition from one paragraph to the next.

During one of my yearly reevaluations of my online presence, I came to the conclusion that this format wasn't working. I decided to switch to one page at a time rather than one paragraph at a time. I started redoing my OneNote documents to get rid of the awkward structure and ended my use of Tumblr for My Idea Outlet. My schedules were altered, and my changes would be posted directly to Blogger. So far, this approach has worked much better for me.
